Jesi
Located at an altitude of 96 m in the lower Esino valley on a slight hill to the left of the river. Economic activity is from agriculture (cereals, vegetables and vines), mechanical industries, foodstuffs (canned food, sugar, cheese and wine industries), textiles and furniture. The traditional craft of goldsmithing is also still alive. The town consists of a medieval centre with ancient monuments and outside this the modern city. There are the preserved fourteenth century walls, built on Roman ruins, with doors, towers and curtains. Interesting medieval churches to visit are St. Nicholas (Romanesque, X-XIII centuries) and San Marco (Gothic XIII century). The baroque churches of St. Florian, St. John the Baptist, Santa Maria delle Grazie, St. Peter and the Neo-classical cathedral San Septimus are also well worth a visit. The Renaissance Palazzo della Signoria houses the museum and art gallery, with paintings by L. Lotto, as well as the library. In the Tesei palace there is a rare gallery with Rococo stucco (1730). Jesi is the home of musician G. B. Pergolesi and birthplace of Frederick II of Swabia.
