Senigallia

The town is situated at 6 m on the Adriatic coast with a port at the mouth of the river Misa. It is the site of an ancient market fair, the largest event of its kind in Europe in the fifteenth century, especially flourishing in the eighteenth century (after concession, in the seventeenth century, of the free port), and whose memory is still alive in Italy. It is important agricultural-commercial centre, with industries (cement, canned food, furniture, clothing, electronics, metalworking, construction materials and shipyards). It is also a lively fishing port and seaside resort (European Blue Flag award) with a large beach.

Crossing the Via Flaminia, the city, which has greatly expanded, especially between the railway line and the beach, keeps some of the Renaissance walls and the impressive Renaissance Ducal Square, with the huge rock attributed to Laurana, and built to a square plan with cylindrical towers, typical of military design of the XV century. The Ducal palace has been attributed to Baccio Pontelli and was the residence of the Dukes of Urbino. Also of interest is the nearby Renaissance Bavaria palace, the seventeenth-century church of Santa Croce, with its rich Baroque interior and the Burial of Christ of Baroccio, the eighteenth century main church (neoclassical facade) and the church of San Martino (1740), with paintings by Guercino and Palma the Young. Noteworthy also are the Town Hall (seventeenth century), the eighteenth century Ercolani arcades along the River Misa and the birthplace of Pius IX. In the surrounding area is the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, XV century (inside there is the table by Perugino), with beautiful cloisters. It is the birthplace of Francesco Maria Della Rovere, Pius IX (Giovanni Maria Mastai Ferretti) and writers A. Panzini and M. Puccini. It is also the site of an annual literary prize in July.

The only hill (572 meters) along the Adriatic coast from Trieste to Gargano, near the cities of Ancona and Camerano, and the tourist centers of Sirolo and Numana, Mount Conero is the heart of the Conero Regional Park. Established in 1987, but managed only since 1991, is an environmental oasis which covers 5800 hectares of protected area, with many places of great natural beauty: Portonovo bay, the beach of the "two sisters”, the north lookout, Pian Grande, Pian Raggetti ... 18 hiking trails that wind through arbutus, brooms, oaks and pines in the magic of Mediterranean scrub. There are numerous species of birds, some of them rare, together with a rich fauna presence. The many plants that make up the Mediterranean scrub are protected here and represent one third of the wealth of Le Marche flora. Numerous testimonies of art: Santa Maria Portonovo, San Pietro al Conero, the Antiquarium of Piceno civilization in Numana, along with specific routes of geological interest.
