Recanati
It is located at an altitude of 293m on a hill on the left of the low valley of Potenza. It is an important agriculture centre (cereals, wine and vegetables) and livestock breeding (pigs, cows and sheep). Recanati also has an important musical instruments company and others important industrial companies (wood, mechanics, clothing and plastics). There is also the traditional industry of copper craftsmanship. The old centre has the typical look of a small Le Marche hill town with small streets formed by noble buildings and beautiful squares. The artistic patrimony is very rich; the San Domenico church of XIV century, with a marble portal of 1481 (inside is a painting by L.Lotto), the San Francesco church, of the XIV century, rebuilt in the XVIII (Palma il Giovane panting), the San Flaviano Cathedral of XIII-XIV century, rebuilt, and the old convent, now the San Agostino church, designed by Bibiena, with gothic cloisters. There are a lot of Renaissance buildings and precious Baroque works, including the Leopardi house, with a unique monumental stairway, and the Carancini building, designed by Bibiena. In the Town Hall, there is a rich picture gallery, with many L.Lotto works.
Near the Cathedral is the Diocesan Museum. Recanati is famous because of Giacomo Leopardi, and it preserves a lot of memories in the family house and around the town. Beniamino Gigli was also from here and there is a small museum dedicated to his memory.
