Studies and excavations practiced since 1879 revealed traces of ancient settlements.

In the entrance of the municipal building is a walled Roman sarcophagus in white marble. The first documents date back to 936 and concern the Church of the Annunciation; after just eleven years are related to the Church of San Lorenzo around which grew the current center.
